No More Gay Batman in New York Gallery

Sunday, August 21st, 2005

DC Comics, the creators of the superhero comics, has ordered a New York gallery to remove pictures which show Batman and Robin kissing and embracing.

The Kathleen Cullen Fine Arts gallery was told it would face legal action unless it removed watercolours of the superhero by artist Mark Chamberlain.

“DC Comics wants me to hand over all unsold work,” said Ms Cullen.

Arts website Artnet was also told to remove the series homo-erotic images of Batman and Robin from its website. DC Comics have nothing to say.

Surely DC Comics must have better things to do with their time than this.

Keinholz @ The Baltic Ending 29th August 2005

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

If you live in the North East of England you must pay a visit to The Baltic before the 29th August to see the Keinholz exhibition.
In all probability this will be the last time that you will have a chance to see this work in the UK for many years.
For me it’s a pity that the exhibition covers so much of his work in one space, as your senses are assaulted by too many pieces. Your mind can not clear one before you are confronted with another. This is a shame as his work is probably the most thought provoking around.
It must have been fantastic to take in these pieces over many years as they were released.
Still not to be missed.

Art On The High Street

Monday, August 15th, 2005

Who can remember when shop signs were a work of art? All lovingly painted with no neon or Perspex in sight.
Well here’s a book that displays some of the best examples, but with a pun.
Surely only in Britain could we have a lingerie shop called Brief Moments or a fish bar called The Battersea Cod’s Home.
Well worth a read or visit the website at www.shophorror.co.uk

A Northern Soul Exhibition In London

Monday, August 15th, 2005

My favourite pop art team A Northern Soul are heading south for an exhibition celebrating Run DMC at the Adidas shop No. 6 in Newburgh Street.
The exhibition starts on the 18th September 2005 and runs for 6 weeks.
The exhibition is being co-ordinated by Hip Hop DJ Richio Suzuki.
For those of you not familiar with their work they are probably the top pop art team in the North of England and work mainly in iconic pop art.
I believe that this is their first exhibition in London so good luck to them.
I’m trying to get Rebecca from A Northern Soul to write a piece for me.
Obviously busy at the moment so maybe around the exhibition time.

After many hours trawling ebay for quality product I came across Urban Fine Arts.
Their work seems to be one of the best on Ebay at the moment.
The feedback is tremendous and the prices very realistic.
Has anyone bought their paintings??
